FAQs:
Is this just going to be lecture like uni?
No. This is focused on streamlining your routine, your investigative questions, your technique, your data interpretation, and your decision-making. You are encouraged to take your own notes, and ask for clarification on any points.

Is it a different topic each week?
Yes, a new topic with a different expert.

Do I need to have my camera on?
We prefer if you have your camera on. This is an INTERACTIVE workshop; and the job of an Optometrist involves interacting with the patients that we care for. If you’re naturally a shy person, then as the weeks go on, you’ll grow in confidence.

If I’ve missed a previous Weekly Workshop, can I still attend further sessions?
Absolutely! Each workshop will run as an individual, free-standing session. Sessions are not pre-recorded

Does it matter what stage of Pre-Reg I am up to?
No. These workshops are aimed at ALL stages of qualification. Even if you’re qualified and want to brush up on key skills, then you’re welcome to attend. The skills and competencies covered will encompass Stage 1, Stage 2 and the OSCEs.

Shane Abbas Bhimani qualified in 2007 as a Dispensing Optician and then went on to qualify as a Contact Lens Optician in 2009. He studied Optometry at Bradford University in 2010. He was awarded the Bausch & Lomb prize in 2009 for a consistently high standard in all theory and practical assessments and the AOP prize in 2011 for the highest marks achieved.

Shane is an Independent Prescribing Optometrist with a Diploma in Glaucoma. These qualifications complement his role at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he works in a consultant-led glaucoma clinic. His work includes formulating clinical management plans for patients with all forms of glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and other optic disc anomalies. Treatment includes observation, drops, laser or listing for surgery.
Shane is also the Clinical Director at Specsavers Hemel Hempstead and London Colney. He has recently completed his Executive MBA at Aston University with distinction.
His other roles include Stage One & Two College Assessor, WOPEC Lead Assessor, ABDO examiner and CPD facilitator. He is also the immediate-past College Council Member for the London region.
Outside work, he enjoys spending time with his children and is trying to learn Arabic.
